July Ryder 2017

It is a great pleasure to welcome so many new neighbors to our community. We are experiencing a renewal as more and more people are choosing Ryde as their happy place! It is exciting to see plans going forward for renovations and new builds. We hope that you will become members. The very best way to meet new friends is to join the Ryde Co-op. The Co-op’s Building Committee is very pleased to welcome Richard Break as their newest member.

Please consider joining one of our great committees: Building, Special Events, Meals, Heritage and/or Accessibility Advisory. There is also room on the Board of Directors!

Grant News

We are happy to announce that we have been successful in three applications: We were awarded $6000 from Cooperator’s Insurance to make a promotional video for the Co-op, $2000 from Shopper’s Drug Mart’s SHOPPERS LOVE YOU fund to run eight Foot Care Cafes in the Fall and Winter, and $500 from the District of Muskoka’s Pay it Forward Fund for two age-friendly chairs for our Terence Haight room. We are very grateful to these funding agencies.

Town of Gravenhurst Council Meeting and BBQ Dinner – Tueday, July 18 at 5:30. Council Meeting at 7:00 pm.  We are pleased to host the Gravenhurst Town Council for their annual visit to Ryde. No tickets are required for this event. $10 for BBQ dinner.  There will be a deputation and display about turtles from START Muskoka.

Ryde’s Heritage Day  Saturday, August 19 from 12 until 4

Don’t miss our annual celebration of all things Ryde! There will be live music from Cruise n’ Country, displays, vendors, food and a beer tent. We need your help to make this day successful. To volunteer, please contact any Board member.

Ryde Home Improvements!

We were very lucky to have the services of Beaver Creek, which sent us skilled workers to assist with some dangerous tree removal, painting and landscaping. You will notice that the Terence Haight room and the kitchen at the Co-op have been freshly painted and the ceiling in the computer lab is no longer a sickly shade of green! We also thank Joanne Washburn, Nancy Cronin, Richard Hearne, Sterling Cooper and Richard Break for help with the Beaver Creek work crew. Ryde Free Methodist Church offered us the use of their premises while the Co-op was closed for renovations. Another great Ryde team effort!

Reverend Sterling Cooper and his wife Cheryl are retiring from their ministry at Ryde Centennial Free Methodist Church. You are welcome to attend his last official service on Sunday, July 30 at  10:30 am. A reception will take place that afternoon between 2:30 and 4:00 at the church. Best wishes only.

 Thank you’s:

  • Superior Home Health Care (Grant Wager 705-571-4830) for a generous loan of a scooter to a Ryde resident at the District Senior Fair
  •  Richard Hearne for Ryde shed roof repair and scrap metal run
