The Ryder for January 2016

Thermometer$95,590.00 raised

The appeal was for money. The appeal asked people to turn on a dime and donate as soon as possible.   Not only did they turn on a dime but they donated thousands of dimes!

With the help of our members, Friends of Ryde and the Town of Gravenhurst almost $96 thousand dollars has been raised toward the goal of making the Ryde schoolhouse our permanent home. And it has all been done with a speed and enthusiasm that takes our breath away.

On December 15, 2015 the Town of Gravenhurst announced a gift to us of $25,000.00 from the Terence Haight Community Endowment Fund.  If we need to apply for a mortgage, the Town will lend us up to $25,000. The initial campaign to raise funds to purchase the property began on December 6, 2015.  In the next 25 days the donations rushed in giving us, as of December 31, 2015, a total of $95,590.00 which includes the gift from the Town.

On Dec. 17, 2015 we submitted a strong bid to the School Board and hopefully made it more attractive by including an early closing date with no conditions attached. It’s only a few short weeks before a decision will be made.  A school board meeting is scheduled for January 26, 2016 to discuss recommendations about the offers.  We hope to know that day that we won the bid! Planning continues as we wait.  And, we take a huge breath and shout out THANK YOU to all donors and volunteers who turned on a dime to help us.
